Head Coach: Jeff Barnett

Chalmers went to Birmingham Seaholm high school where he played on the water polo team as goalie all four years. He was team captain his junior and senior year, and MVP his senior year. He was also an all-State swimmer and all-American springboard diver in high school. He placed 20th in the one-meter springboard event, and 25th in the three-meter springboard event at the junior Olympic national championships in 2002. After giving up diving at EMU, he decided to get back into the sport of water polo by coaching. This is his first experience coaching.

Old Coach

How Jit was born and raise in Malaysia with two sisters Woan Chyi and Woan Tun. He came over to the US in 1997 to further his study at Purdue University, West Lafayette where he graduated in 2002 with a BS Mechanical Engineering, minor in Economics. Currently he live in Ann Arbor, Mi and work for Robert Bosch Corp. as an Sensor Application Engineer.

Coaching experience: Previously coached Sam Tet high school men team in 1997 season and won the silver medal in the state championship. How Jit was also the asistant coach for EMU women water polo for 2005 season and returning to 2006 season as the head coach for the team.

Playing background: How Jit started off as a swimmer, with goal to improve health. Highlight of his swimming career is representing Malaysian in the ASEAN Junior Meet in Jakarta, Indonesia. Eventually got bored with swimming and switched over to Waterpolo at age of 15. Played and captained his high school with 3 silver medals in State Championships. He also played for the state first team under Coach David Heung for five years, achieving 2 gold medals, 2 silver medal and 1 bronze medal in the various national level championship. First medal in the process was the first medal for the states in 10+ years time span. Played at Purdue for 2 years before retiring to take up Co-op program. How Jit returned to the game after 6+ years retirement in season 2004 under coach Andy Zimmer at University of Michigan where he is also pursuing a part time master degree. Recently won his first international cap in November 05 representing team Malaysia in the South East Asia Games held at the Phillippines where team Malaysia won their first international water polo medal in 14 years.

 

Stavros played water polo and swam for four years at Jenison High School where he was the captain of both water polo and swim teams (3 MWPA state tournament berths, 1 third place finish). Stavros played on the West Michigan water polo club's 2001 Junior Olympic team. He graduated from Jenison high school in 2001. Stavros played water polo for the University of Michigan for four years (3 National tournament bids, 2 Big Ten championships 2003, 2004. National Champions 2003, Nationals 3rd place 2004) under Vaughn Cooper. Stavros has coached several summer teams for Jenison High School (2002, 2003). Along with being the head coach for EMU's women's team in 2005 Stavros helped coach the Dexter high school's women's water polo team with Rich Magner (in 2003 Dexter earned their first ever regional tournament bid, and in 2004 Dexter earned their first ever state tournament bid after only 4 years of being a club).

 

 


Joel's hometown is Kentwood, Michigan. He has played water polo for eight years. Last season was his first experience with coaching.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jot Tristan Started the water polo program at EMU in 2002.
